Breast Deformation Simulation
The research focuses on developing a real-time breast deformation simulator under different patient’s positions with the help of finite element analysis (FEA) and artificial neural network (ANN). There are two parts of the research. In the first part, we built an FEA model of a real patient’s breast. We then constructed an NN and mapped the breast’s material properties and the patient’s position to the breast deformation. As validating the approach with real patient is not accessible during COVID period, in the second part, we used a breast phantom and took MRIs at different postures. The same steps were taken as the first part of the research, we found good match between the ANN model and the breast phantom. Hence, we validated the simulation method we proposed from step 1.
